Flashpoint word games
Flashpoint is a project to preserve Flash and other web based games and animations, including redirecting traffic to now possibly discontinued servers, to keep the games playable.
Flash itself was launched by Macromedia in 1996 and is to be discontinued by Adobe, it’s current owners, in 2020.
So far the project has archived 30,000 plus titles - amongst them some great time wasters including some word games.
You can download a nearly quarter terabyte download with all the games. Or there is Flashpoint Infinity with a (much) smaller download and then further downloads of games as you want to play them are seamless. It works on PC, and there is some limited Linux support. Here is a page with more information including links to the downloads.
There are many word searches, hangmans, crosswords and Boggle and Scrabble clones, but then there are a number of other word games with unique and novel mechanics. I’ve had fun with Clockwords, Word Wipe, Scrabble Blast and Wordz, as well as a dozen others. The fun is exploring and finding new games. Search on “word” or “letter”.
